Let's be civilized

I recently bought civilization 5 and I really remember why I loved the first one. The strategy based game that revolutionized strategy games has really been done well. The original was genius. To defeat your enemy you must either create a space station, dominate the map or create world peace.

As objectives go, the game hasn't really changed. However the way you complete them has. New buildings and special units help you get one over on your enemy! Religion and country policies were almost useless in the original, however now what the player chooses can really change how the player plays. Characters also now have their own powers, queen Victoria has longbow men (no clue why) and advanced naval units. So who you play as will also change your play. The new 3D map makes the whole experience more realistic, also allowing you to understand the map better. For all these reasons I will be playing this game for many more weeks. There is only one thing I do think could be fixed. Sometimes the game is far to slow to respond. Whether that be the game not realising that you finished your turn,or just the time it takes for the game to process the other players turns.
All in all this game is brilliant. No matter what people say, I will always love this game. I really recommend this game to anyone who enjoys strategy games, or people who want to try out their first strategy game. This is a definite 10/10

The Rise of a new series

Metal Gear Solid has been, for many years, playstaions game to boast. The series has spawned great games like Sons of liberty and Snake eater. Sony allowed the original Metal gear solid games to come out on Xbox in the form of an HD collection. After it's great success it seems that they will also let Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance be released on Xbox at the same time as PS3! Will Sony really let one of their best exclusive games slip into the hands of Microsoft? For those who havent played any of the Metal Gear Solid games, I'll let you know what to expect. Do you love Ninja Gaiden? Did you enjoy sneaking around in Assasins Creed? If you said yes to both then you will become a fan boy of the Metal Gear Solid series. If only one yes, then you will still enjoy playing this game. So far the games action-sneak game style look amazing, the sneak is everything you would expect from the Metal Gear series, and after watching Raiden in action from Guns of Patriots I can't wait to get in there and slice through enemies. I have very high expectations for this game, as Raiden was a personal favourite of all the charecters (yes I like him more than Snake) I can't wait to see him in this new light. So far the release date is yet to be announced, however it is being made by Kojima Productions so expect it to be in on time!  For more Information about the game check follow the link to IGN

RIP PSP

Handhelds were amazing, everyone wanted one or had one. Lets have a blast to the past and see the hand held history.
The PSP flew off the shelves in March 2005. Everyone wanted one, and why not? You could take your favorite characters around with you wherever you went, the ghost of Sparta could accompany you on the bus; who wouldn't want that? Great games like Ratchet and Clank:size matters, God of War:chins of Olympus and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker all were fan favorites. People even stormed the stores to get their hands on a DS in March 2005. The dual screens gave players more to see on a handheld. The new touchscreen was a great addition to the handheld, and everyone loved being able to use their fingers to play.

Now in the present we have the PSP Vita and 3DS, and considering the past you would have expected them to do great! However the smart phones have completely dominated the handheld gaming world. Games like Angry birds and Fruit Ninja have become house hold names. If you haven't played Angry Birds you've definitely heard of it. First I'll talk about the 3DS.
It's 3D without glasses feature was a big selling point, the idea of playing games in 3D and seeing it without glasses really excited me! However I think the thought that crossed my mind crossed everyone's mind, "doesn't my phone have better games than this?" The 3D was a gimmick, and unfortunately for Nintendo it wasn't a good one. People got chronic headaches from the 3D, so most people didn't even use the 3D function on their 3DS. Now Sony has made the mistake of not learning from their competitors Nintendo. The Handheld age is dying, however I feel that the Vita is on the right lines. I really don't want to see the hand held die. The Vita is more like a real console, and I think that could probably be the best way to go. The dual analogue sticks let the you play like a real console. As technology increases the Smart Phones will have to step down from games and step up in music and 4G internet. That is when Sony or Microsoft should burst out with a great handheld. Something that has great 3G and great games. Why not Nintendo? Because the last thing that would help revive handhelds is another Zelda game. Don't get me wrong the Vita and 3DS are both good handhelds, they have just come out at the wrong time.

Handhelds really are a great form of gaming, so we really should try keep them alive. Personally I don't think Smart Phones will dominate handheld gaming for much longer. So please Microsoft, Sony, get designing as I really think that a handheld in a years time will do extremely well.
